Wanaque is more residential than destination-oriented, but it works well for family visits, business travel and outdoor-oriented North Jersey trips. Haskell has an in-town hotel, while municipal parks and nearby state forests make the borough a practical base for the Highlands.

Access distinction: Rainbow Valley Lake is restricted by borough code to Wanaque residents, families and guests. The Wanaque Reservoir is a regional drinking-water source, not a casual public recreation lake. Visitors should use designated public parks and state recreation areas instead.
